Nonprofit honors Vikas Khanna with Global Humanitarian Icon award
Khanna has combined his culinary career with humanitarian initiatives focused on supporting vulnerable communities in India.

Indian-American chef Vikas Khanna was honored with the Global Humanitarian Icon Award by New Jersey-based nonprofit Leap to Shine for his work supporting underserved children in India through education and digital learning.
Leap to Shine announced the recognition on Instagram, praising Khanna’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities and using digital learning to help children build better futures.

Khanna, a Michelin-starred chef and 2026 TIME100 honoree, has built a career that extends beyond the culinary world. TIME included him among its 100 most influential people of 2026, recognizing his influence through food, culture and philanthropy.
The chef has also undertaken large-scale humanitarian efforts in India. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Khanna launched Feed India, an initiative that provided food and essential supplies to vulnerable communities during the nationwide lockdown. The campaign eventually distributed more than 30 million meals across 135 cities in India.
In 2020, Asia Society honored Khanna with its Asia Game Changer Award for his efforts to feed millions of people in India during the pandemic.
Leap to Shine focuses on expanding access to digital education for underserved children. Its programs provide learning tablets containing curriculum-aligned lessons, practice exercises, tests, STEM projects, audiobooks and digital libraries, with content available in Hindi and other local languages.
The organization has worked with partners in several parts of India to provide digital learning resources to children in underserved and tribal communities.
