Lone Star College dedicates conference room to Wadhwani family
The Wadhwani family’s latest gift will support nursing education and equipment at the CyFair campus.

Lone Star College-CyFair has dedicated a conference room in honor of the Wadhwani family, recognizing the Indian American family’s more than two decades of support for the college system and its students.
The conference room recognizes Ashok and the late Ishu Wadhwani, who have supported Lone Star College System through their involvement with the Geographic Information Systems program, employment opportunities for students and graduates, and scholarship funding through the Lone Star College Foundation.

“Generosity from donors like the Wadhwani family makes all the difference for our students,” said Nicole Robinson Gauthier, CFRE, LSCS associate vice chancellor of Foundation Advancement. “One act of kindness can benefit an entire community when it allows someone to earn an education without having to worry about financial barriers.”
The Wadhwanis helped strengthen the GIS program at LSC-CyFair by serving on advisory committees and hiring students and graduates at their company, Applied Field Data Systems, which specializes in geospatial integration and data management services. The family also established an endowment through the LSC Foundation to provide scholarships.
Their latest gift supports nursing education at LSC-CyFair, including the purchase of instructional equipment for the college’s Human Anatomy Visualization Lab.
The gift was inspired in part by the care Ishu received before her death in September 2025. She was treated by Celia LaPlante, a nurse at Memorial Hermann Health System and a Lone Star College System graduate. LaPlante’s care left a lasting impression on the Wadhwani family and prompted them to increase their support for nursing education.
“Nurses are often working with patients and families going through extremely difficult circumstances,” Ashok said. “Our hope is that future generations of nurses in our community will provide the same level of care that we received to others.”
Ishu was born in Calcutta, India, and lived in the Houston region since 1980. She and Ashok owned Applied Field Data Systems.
LSC-CyFair’s GIS program prepares students for careers as GIS technicians, data analysts and project managers, among other roles. The college’s nursing program offers multiple pathways, ranging from a Nurse Aide (CNA) certificate to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
The Lone Star College Foundation, established in 1991, has awarded nearly $30 million in scholarships to more than 27,000 students, along with $14.7 million in program and emergency support.
