Forbes names Vikas Khanna’s Bungalow in New York dining guide
The list was published last month by Steve Forbes, chairman and editor-in-chief of Forbes Media.

Indian chef Vikas Khanna’s New York City restaurant Bungalow was featured in Forbes’ latest dining guide, “New York Restaurants September 2026: Where To Go,” written by Steve Forbes.
Khanna shared the recognition in a social media post, describing the feature as an honor and reflecting on his nearly three-decade journey in New York City.
The Forbes article highlights Bungalow and Khanna’s role in the restaurant experience, describing the chef as potentially “the most famous Indian chef in the WORLD.” It portrays the restaurant as an extension of Khanna’s television presence, noting that he greets diners at the bar, poses for photographs with guests all while introducing them to Indian cuisine.

“Vikas Khanna might be the most famous Indian chef in the world, and Bungalow feels like a visit to one of his television sets. He greets diners at the glamorous bar, indulges patrons’ selfie requests and then takes them on an Indian food tour. Don’t miss out on the lamb chops—they live up to the hype,” the Forbes article said.
In his post, Khanna said the recognition prompted him to reflect on the early years of his career in New York. He recalled a time when Indian cuisine had not yet become part of the mainstream culinary conversation in the United States.
“We have come a long way,” Khanna wrote.
He also credited the chefs, restaurateurs, immigrants, dreamers and pioneers who helped establish a foundation for Indian cuisine and culture in the American food industry.
“My heart is full of gratitude for every chef, restaurateur, immigrant, dreamer and pioneer who came before us and created a path for us to walk on,” he wrote.
Khanna added that his success was connected to the efforts of those who came before him, writing, “We are standing here because someone walked before us.”
The chef concluded his post by describing himself as humbled and grateful and reaffirming his pride in representing India.
Khanna, who has built an international profile through his culinary work and television appearances, opened Bungalow in New York City as a celebration of Indian cuisine. The Forbes recognition adds to the restaurant’s visibility among New York’s dining destinations.
