An Indian-origin woman was arrested earlier this month in North Carolina after allegedly attacking her husband with a knife during a domestic dispute at their home.
Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Domestic Violence Unit arrested Chandraprabha Singh, 44, on Oct. 12 and charged her with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, a felony offense.

According to an arrest warrant, Singh “unlawfully, willfully, [and] feloniously” cut her husband, Arvind Singh, causing serious injury. Police responded to a report of an assault on Foxhaven Drive around 10:49 a.m. on Oct. 12.
By the time officers arrived, Arvind Singh had already been transported to the hospital with a serious neck injury.
Investigators said the incident stemmed from a domestic disagreement. An affidavit states that Singh told detectives the injury was “accidental,” claiming she turned around with a knife in her hand while preparing breakfast and unintentionally hurt her husband.
However, Arvind Singh told 911 operators that she was “frustrated and purposely attacked him with the knife” after an argument over house cleaning.
According to reports, Singh, who was employed as an assistant teacher at Endhaven Elementary School, has been suspended with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
Singh was initially denied bond by a magistrate but later had her bond set at $10,000 during an Oct. 13 court appearance, according to court documents. She was released from jail after posting bond and was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and avoid contact with her husband.
Her next court hearing is scheduled for Oct. 30. The CMPD Domestic Violence Unit continues to investigate the case.
