A U.S. federal court has sentenced a Canadian national to 20 years in prison for leading a drug trafficking organization that smuggled hundreds of kilograms of cocaine and methamphetamine from the United States into Canada.
Guramrit Sidhu, 63, of Brampton, Ontario, was sentenced to 240 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge John A. Kronstadt after pleading guilty in March to one count of engaging in a continuing criminal enterprise. Sidhu has been in federal custody since his extradition from Canada in October 2024.

According to court documents, Sidhu led a criminal organization that trafficked narcotics from the United States into Canada between September 2020 and February 2023 for distribution.
Prosecutors said that between Sept. 13 and Oct. 24, 2022, Sidhu coordinated eight separate drug shipments involving approximately 523 kilograms of methamphetamine and 347 kilograms of cocaine. Law enforcement authorities seized the drugs, which had an estimated wholesale value of between $15 million and $17 million.
Investigators said Sidhu arranged for the narcotics to be transported across the border in long-haul semi-trucks after purchasing them in the United States. He also provided couriers with telephone numbers and serial numbers from currency notes to verify identities during deliveries. Once the shipments reached Canada, Sidhu and his associates retrieved the drugs for further distribution.
Sidhu is the eighth defendant to plead guilty in the investigation. Several co-defendants have already been sentenced to federal prison terms ranging from 27 months to 108 months.
The investigation was conducted by the FBI, the Los Angeles Police Department, the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, and Mexican law enforcement authorities, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and the Drug Enforcement Administration.
