Indian American author releases children’s book on Rath Yatra

Indian American author and singer Aditi Srivastava Modi has released a new children's book introducing young readers in the United States to the Hindu festival of Rath Yatra, expanding her collection of works that celebrate Indian culture and traditions.
Published by San Diego-based Su Che Publishing, Happy Rath Yatra: The Festival of Chariots is designed to help children, families and educators learn about one of Hinduism's oldest and most celebrated festivals through engaging storytelling and colorful illustrations.

The book follows Lord Jagannath's annual chariot procession in Puri, Odisha, explaining the festival's religious and cultural significance while highlighting themes of devotion, service, unity and community. Aimed at readers in the United States and the broader diaspora, it seeks to make Indian traditions more accessible to younger generations growing up outside India.
"Rath Yatra is a tradition that brings entire communities together in shared joy and service. My goal was to craft an authentic, visually captivating book that allows children to experience the grandeur of the procession while understanding the deeper values of kindness and togetherness that move these majestic chariots,” Modi said in a statement.
The release comes shortly after this year's Rath Yatra celebrations in Puri and adds to a growing body of children's literature focused on Indian festivals for multicultural audiences.
California-based Modi, who also performs under the stage name Itida, has previously authored children's books on Holi, Lohri and Vaisakhi. Through her writing and music, she aims to bridge the gap between tradition and the modern world for children everywhere.
Happy Rath Yatra: The Festival of Chariots is available for purchase in paperback and digital formats through major online booksellers and select independent retailers.
