Santhosh Ramalingegowda to lead UGA accounting school
Ramalingegowda will lead the school after serving in multiple academic and research leadership roles at the university.

The University of Georgia's Terry College of Business appointed Indian-origin accounting scholar Santhosh Ramalingegowda as director of the J.M. Tull School of Accounting.
Ramalingegowda, who also holds the Deloitte Foundation Endowed Professorship at the Tull School, succeeds Margaret Christ, who was recently named associate dean of graduate programs and AI initiatives at Terry College. Christ, the J.M. Tull chair in Accounting, had served as director of the school since July 2024.

"Santhosh has been a valued and highly regarded faculty member at the Tull School of Accounting for two decades and understands its long tradition of excellence," Terry College dean Santanu Chatterjee said.
"I am confident the Tull School will continue to thrive under his leadership and be a destination for accounting students to excel and prepare for successful careers," he added.
Ramalingegowda joined the Tull School as an assistant professor in 2006 and has since held several academic leadership positions, including serving as the school's PhD coordinator. He was appointed the Deloitte Foundation Endowed Professor in 2024 after serving as a Deloitte Faculty Fellow from 2018 to 2024.
He currently serves as an associate editor of the Journal of Accounting, Auditing & Finance and is a member of the editorial board of Accounting and Business Research.
Expressing gratitude for the appointment, Ramalingegowda said, "I'm grateful to dean Chatterjee and my colleagues for their confidence in me. The Tull School's success is a testament to the extraordinary faculty, staff, and students who have built an outstanding record of achievement over the past 20 years.”

His research focuses on how institutional investors use and trade on financial accounting information reported by corporate managers and how the quality of financial reporting influences major corporate decisions. His teaching expertise includes managerial accounting and capital markets research.
Ramalingegowda has served as a J. Hatten Howard III teaching professor since 2013, received the university's outstanding teacher recognition in 2012, and has earned the University of Georgia's Student Career Development Award five times.
He has also mentored several doctoral students who have gone on to faculty positions at universities around the world.
He earned a bachelor's degree from Mysore University in India before completing a PhD in accounting at Pennsylvania State University.
