The United States Yogasana Sports Federation and the United States Yoga Association have announced plans to launch a children's yoga education initiative in the United States.

The initiative was announced following founder and president of the United States Yogasana Sports Federation, Balwinder Singh’s, participation in the World Peace & Harmony event in Washington, D.C., where he met Acharya Lokesh Muni, founder of the Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti Foundation.

During the event, Acharya Lokesh described yoga as a path to peace, compassion and harmony, emphasizing Yama, beginning with Ahimsa (non-violence), as the foundation of the eight limbs of yoga outlined in the Yoga Sutras. Inspired by the message, Singh unveiled the children's yoga education initiative.

Singh said the initiative will include a series of illustrated books for kindergarten and elementary school students. Using cartoon stories and characters, the books will introduce the principles of Yama and Niyama, focusing on values such as kindness, honesty, discipline and self-improvement.

The organizations are seeking publishing partners and educational collaborators to support the publication and distribution of the books across the United States. They have also proposed after-school yoga education programs that would teach children the first three limbs of yoga, Yama, Niyama and Yogasana, to encourage character development, physical fitness and overall well-being.

According to Singh, the proposal has been shared with several U.S. lawmakers, including Brad Sherman, Shri Thanedar, Joe Crowley and Suhas Subramanyam, seeking support to expand yoga education and youth wellness initiatives nationwide.

During the Washington, D.C., event, Acharya Lokesh also congratulated the United States Yogasana Sports Federation for Team USA's performance at the inaugural World Yogasana Championships 2026, where the self-funded team won one gold medal and four bronze medals.

Singh said stronger support from government agencies, educational institutions and community organizations would help expand youth participation and strengthen the country's Yogasana program.

"With stronger support and investment in youth development, we can create opportunities for thousands of children and athletes, promote healthier communities, and proudly represent the United States at future World Yogasana Championships," he said.
