Capitol hill event sounds call for ‘War-Free World'

U.S. lawmakers and community leaders joined Acharya Lokesh Muni on Capitol Hill to endorse the War-Free World movement promoting peace and nonviolence.

Lawmakers, community leaders and peace advocates gathered at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill to endorse the "War-Free World" movement during an event marking the 250th anniversary of the United States on July 1.

The gathering was led by Peace Ambassador Acharya Lokesh Muni, founder of the Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti Foundation, and focused on promoting peace, nonviolence and global harmony.

Among those present were Reps. Brad Sherman of California, Raja Krishnamoorthi of Illinois, Shri Thanedar of Michigan and Suhas Subramanyam of Virginia. Former Rep. Joe Crowley also attended, expressing support for the initiative.

During the program, Acharya Lokesh Muni, joined by Thanedar and Crowley, presented awards recognizing individuals for their contributions to the event and to peace-building efforts. Nitin Vyas, the event coordinator, Public Relations Director of World Vegan Vision and a member of the United States Yogasana Sports Federation, received recognition for organizing the event.

The program was arranged and managed by Ashok Bhatt, a former California water commissioner and hotelier, while certified yoga instructor Nidhi Pandya served as master of ceremonies.

Reflecting the foundation's emphasis on ahimsa, or nonviolence, organizers served an entirely vegan menu prepared under the supervision of Vyas. Representatives of the United States Yogasana Sports Federation and its New Jersey chapter, along with wellness advocates including Poonam Gupta, Devi Balla, Geeta Patel and Dr. Anjum Nadaf, also expressed support for the campaign.

Other attendees included Anil Mongia, chairman of the Ahimsa Vishwa Bharti Foundation USA; Karamjeet Dhariwal, president of the foundation's U.S. chapter; Harish Arora; and Piyush Patel, among other community leaders.

Organizers said the event underscored bipartisan support for peace initiatives and strengthened dialogue on nonviolence, wellness and international cooperation.
