She said reproductive rights and women’s healthcare remain under threat in several parts of the country and pledged continued support for healthcare protections in New York.

“At a time when reproductive rights and women’s healthcare are under threat across the country, I will always fight to protect the right of every person to make their own healthcare decisions with dignity, privacy, and respect,” Rajkumar said.

Rajkumar also thanked Planned Parenthood for its support and its work on healthcare and equity issues.

The endorsement comes amid continuing national debates over abortion access and reproductive healthcare following the rollback of federal abortion protections in the United States.

Rajkumar, who represents parts of Queens in the New York State Assembly, made history in 2020 as the first Indian American woman elected to New York State office. During her tenure, she has focused on issues including immigrant rights, public safety, labor protections, and women’s rights.

Her re-election campaign has secured endorsements from several elected officials and organizations, including New York Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Congressman Gregory Meeks, State Senators John Liu, Joe Addabbo, and James Sanders.

Her campaign has additionally highlighted backing from labor organizations including 32BJ SEIU, 1199SEIU, the Hotel and Gaming Trades Council, Public Employees Federation, the New York State Troopers PBA, and IBEW Local 3.
