Jagpreet Singh, a 52-year-old man accused of murdering his wife, 41-year-old Balwinder Kaur, was presented for trial at Abbotsford provincial court on Jan. 12.
The couple's daughter had moved to Canada in 2021 and but later developed some serious medical issues, as per the prosecutors. Kaur subsequently reached Canada on a visitor's Visa to take care of her daughter. In 2024, Singh also moved to Canada after necessary paperwork was submitted by Kaur.

Singh is accused of fatally stabbing his wife in 2024, six days after the duo reunited in Canada. On the day of the incident, the police were called to a house on Wagner Drive, where Kaur was discovered unconscious and in a pool of blood. She was rushed to the hospital but doctors were unable to save her life, as per CBC news.
Singh was subsequently charged with second-degree murder, to which he pleaded 'not guilty'.
