New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani launched a volunteer drive titled “Big Birthday Weekend,” urging supporters to join canvassing efforts ahead of the city’s early voting period, which begins on Oct. 25.

In a video message posted on X, Mamdani, who turns 34 on Oct. 18.  humorously addressed voter concerns about his age, saying, “You’re worried about a 33-year-old becoming mayor of New York City. That’s why this weekend I’ll be making a change. I’m turning 34 — and I’m committing that for every single day from here on out I will grow older.”

He added, “The best birthday gift you could give me is to come on out and canvas. This is the last weekend before early voting starts… because the best gift is to beat Andrew Cuomo a second time.”

The appeal comes as Mamdani, a 33-year-old state assemblymember representing Astoria, Queens, continues to dominate election polls which indicate that he will win the mayoral race with a comfortable lead.

If elected, Mamdani would become New York City’s first Muslim and Indian American mayor, as well as one of its youngest leaders in modern history.

He has framed his campaign around affordability, public transit reform, and community-led safety measures.
