The Federation of Indian Associations-Chicago (since 1980)will commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Indian statesman Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel with a Community Unity Walk/Run on Oct. 25.
The event at Volkening Lake,will begin at 1:00 PM and feature a 1-kilometer walk/run open to individuals, families, and community groups. Organizers said the initiative aims to showcase “the strength and unity of the Indian diaspora.”

“All organizations and their members are invited to participate,” FIA Chicago said in its announcement, encouraging families and community groups to join the event.
Born in 1875, Patel played a pivotal role in uniting more than 560 princely states following India’s independence, earning him the title Iron Man of Bharat (India). His birth anniversary, observed on October 31, is celebrated as National Unity Day in India.
Founded in 1980, FIA Chicago is among the largest Indian-American non-profit umbrella organizations in the United States, representing a broad network of cultural and civic groups across the Midwest.
