Louisiana Tech University’s School of Design Galleries opened 'Perpetual Practice,' a solo exhibition by Indian-American multidisciplinary artist Preetika Rajgariah.

The showcase, which opened on Oct. 14, will run through Dec. 9 at the university’s TVAC Galleries. The opening event featured an artist talk, followed by a reception.

Rajgariah’s work draws from her experiences as an immigrant, a queer brown woman, and a Southerner, addressing themes such as feminism, intersectionality, cultural appropriation, and belonging.

Since 2019, Rajgariah has used repurposed yoga mats as her primary medium—materials she views as symbols of mass production and cultural erasure—to construct layered paintings and collages.

Using donated and second-hand fabrics, including sari materials passed down from her mother and community, she integrates personal and global textile histories to explore identity, globalization, and cultural exchange.

“My work is an exploration of my layered identity—as an immigrant, as a brown woman, as an ‘American,’ as a Southerner, and as a queer person,” Rajgariah told the university press.

“Through nontraditional materials, I embody making as meditation while challenging oppressive systems, championing marginalized voices, and promoting healing and accessibility to wellness and self-care,” she added.

Rajgariah’s portfolio includes exhibitions and performances at venues such as Asia Society Texas, Untitled Art Fair Miami, and Art League Houston, as well as residencies at institutions including the Houston Contemporary Craft Center, Vermont Studio Center, and the Golden Foundation. She is also the recipient of the 2021 Artadia Award and the Idea Fund grant.

The 'Perpetual Practice' exhibition continues Louisiana Tech’s commitment to presenting diverse contemporary voices in the arts.
