World Bank Group President Ajay Banga on Oct. 14 called for a global effort to make agriculture a modern engine of jobs, growth, and food security, unveiling a plan to double the Bank’s annual agribusiness financing to $9 billion by 2030.
Speaking at the AgriConnect flagship event during the World Bank’s 2025 Annual Meetings, Banga said the challenge was not just to grow more food but to “turn that growth into a business that produces higher incomes for smallholder farmers and more opportunity across entire economies.”
