Deepa Sharma elected Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party

Deepa Sharma was elected as the Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party. She clinched a significant victory, securing over 90 percent votes. 

In a pre-election statement, Deepa Sharma described why she was running for the office and said, “we need bold, thoughtful, and strategic leadership to confront the challenges we are facing, and to usher in a new future for our Party.

Congressman Ro Khanna congratulated Deepa Sharma on “her stunning 90% win for Vice Chair of the California Democratic Party”. He also added, “she will do an incredible job and is a leader bringing all wings of our party together.”

The California Democratic Party, headquartered in Sacramento, is the largest state affiliate of the national Democratic Party, representing over 10 million registered Democrats as of 2024. The party currently holds a majority in the state legislature, controlling 60 of 80 Assembly seats and 30 of 40 Senate seats, along with the governorship under Gavin Newsom since 2019.
