India’s Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), organized Viksit Bharat Runs across more than 150 locations spanning 91 countries, on Sept. 28.
Aimed at highlighting unity, environmental stewardship, and cultural pride, in the USA, the runs were organized in Washington, Chicago and San Francisco.
The simultaneous events were held as part of Seva Pakhwada, celebrated from Sept 17 to Oct. 2, and reflected "the transformative progress India has achieved in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, technology, education, and sustainability", as per a statement by the Indian Embassy in Washington.
Globally, Viksit Bharat runs were organized in numerous major cities including Bangkok, Beirut, Brunei, Beijing, Dili, Doha, Galle, Nairobi, Kuala Lumpur, Ljubljana, Mandalay, Melbourne, Perth, Riyadh, Rome, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo, among many others.

The event at Washington was jointly organized by the Indian Embassy in Washington and MY Bharat in Maryland, on Sept. 28. The run in Washington DC drew enthusiastic participation from the Indian diaspora, local communities, students, professionals, and friends of India.
The Indian consulate in San Francisco also hosted a similar run. Working in collaboration with the The Indian American community, the run was organized on Sept. 28.
Hundreds from across the Bay Area came together to celebrate unity, service, and their bond with India as part of Seva Pakhwada, with Consul General in San Francisco Dr. Srikar Reddy leading the community in taking the Viksit Bharat pledge.
In Chicago, the Viksit Bharat run was organized on Sept. 27. The run was hosted by the consulate in Chicago in collaboration with the Global Indian Diaspora Foundation. The gathering drew families, community leaders, and dignitaries, further strengthening the bonds of the Indian American diaspora.
Consul General in Chicago, Somnath Ghosh, congratulated attendees on Navratri and Durga Puja, urging the community to “run for development, friendship, and inclusivity—honoring both ancestral roots and our shared future.”
Apart from the Viksit Bharat run and Viksit Bharat pledge being undertaken in all locations, they also witnessed the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative, underscoring the link between personal responsibility and environmental sustainability towards building a greener planet.
The celebrations commemorated the 75th birthday of India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and echoed his vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
