Indian-origin Democrat lawmaker Ro Khanna sparred on Sept. 28 with far-right influencer and friend President Donald Trump, Laura Loomer, who asked him to resign for backing the Palestinian state, and even used invective language against him.

The long-winding exchange of words between the two attracted a wide and interactive social media audience which split into two, posting animated, often scurrilous reactions. Khanna remained restrained while Loomer gave no quarter.

It began with Loomer asking Khanna why he shared “a stage with HAMAS supporters this weekend at ArabCon who laughed & cheered when asked if they would condemn October 7.” She said, “Ro Khanna should RESIGN.”

She was referring to the 45th ArabCon, a convention organized by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee Khanna attended in Darborn, Michigan. Khanna responded saying: “47 House Democrats supported my letter to recognize a Palestinian state. 30 signed a letter explicitly opposing it. The tide is turning, but we have work to do.”

Loomer began the charge: “Supporters of a Palestinian state support Islamic terrorism.” She posted a video of the conference that showed Khanna there. She even accused Khanna of "gaslighting" to excuse terrorism.

Khanna clarified his stand: “And I have been clear of my unequivocal condemnation of Hamas as a terrorist group and Oct 7th. I have confidence people will judge me on my words and record, not attribute everything everyone says at a conference to me!”

Amid the back and forth, Khanna asked her: “So you believe @LauraLoomer that it is fine to kill women and children in Gaza who are not part of Hamas' brigades and battalions?” She retorted saying women and children “can be terrorists” and continued asking him why he spoke at the conference.

Khanna called the Hamas attack horrific and called out Loomer on Gaza, posting: “I have called the Hamas Oct 7 terrorist attacks horrific & called for the unconditional release of hostages. I vehemently disagree with anyone who excuses or minimizes that. Now do you condemn Netanyahu's ongoing killing of women and children in Gaza?”
