Congresswoman Meng visits Asian old-age home, decries Medicaid cuts

Congresswoman Grace Meng recently visited the India Home senior center in New York to discuss the Trump administration's cuts to Medicaid.
India Home is a non-profit organization running multiple homes in New York, dedicated to addressing the needs of the South Asian and Indo-Caribbean senior immigrant community in New York City.
In July 2025, President Trump's "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" enacted sweeping Medicaid cuts, slashing federal spending by approximately USD900 billion over the next decade through reduced reimbursements and stricter eligibility rules. These changes, including work requirements and caps on state-directed payments, are projected to increase the uninsured population by up to 17 million by 2034 as per reports, disproportionately impacting low-income families, children, and rural hospitals.
Apart from the India Home senior center, the Congresswoman from New York also visited the Newtown Senior Center.

Announcing the news of the meeting, Rep. Meng said on X, "This week at India Home and the Newtown Senior Center, I listened to residents share their concerns."
She added, "I’m fighting to reverse these cuts and preserve vital tax credits that help keep health care costs low for thousands of Queens families."
