Srivatsan Raman inducted into Missouri S&T academy
Raman was among eight alumni recognized at Missouri S&T’s April 9 ceremony for work in biochemical research and education.

Indian American biochemist Srivatsan Raman has been inducted into the Missouri University of Science and Technology Academy of Chemical and Biochemical Engineers, for his professional achievements and contributions to the field.
Raman, a professor at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, was among eight professionals to be inducted during a ceremony held April 9 at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla.

The academy recognizes distinguished alumni and supports the university’s Linda and Bipin Doshi Department of Chemical and Biochemical Engineering through mentorship and advisory engagement.
Raman serves as the S.C. Fang Endowed Professor and vice chair of the department of biochemistry at Wisconsin–Madison and directs the National Institutes of Health-funded T32 Biotechnology Training Program.
His research focuses on understanding and designing biomolecular systems using high-throughput functional assays, spanning biomolecular folding, structural biology, and synthetic biology. He has authored 45 peer-reviewed publications and holds five patents.
Raman’s work has been recognized with multiple honors, including the NIH Director’s New Innovator Award and the National Science Foundation CAREER Award.
In addition to his research, Raman has been involved in community lectures and festivals, K-12 and educator outreach, student mentorship, and forums on entrepreneurship and ethics.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda, a master’s degree from Missouri S&T, and a Ph.D. in biochemistry from the University of Washington School of Medicine. He completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering.
