Indian immigrant explains why many choose to stay back in US
The Instagram creator says better infrastructure and a quieter lifestyle influenced his decision.

An Indian man living in the United States has gone viral after explaining why many immigrants who initially plan to return home eventually decide to settle in America.
Gaurav Makhloga shared his views in an Instagram video, saying he had originally planned to work in the US for just two to four years, save money and then return to India permanently. However, he said his outlook changed after experiencing life in the country.

"Before coming to America, my thought process was that I will earn money for 2-4 years, then I will go to my country and enjoy there," Makhloga said.
In the video, Makhloga showed his neighborhood during the evening, pointing to the quiet streets and green surroundings as reasons many immigrants find it difficult to leave after building a life in the US.
"It's evening time now. You can't see anyone far away. There is so much peace here, who would want to go from here?" he said.
While emphasizing that "there is no place like home or country," Makhloga said the quality of life, career opportunities and modern infrastructure in the US often influence people to extend what was initially meant to be a temporary stay.
"It's different that there is no place like home or country. There are so many opportunities and facilities here that no one wants to go from here," he said.
He also cited the greenery in many American neighborhoods as another reason people enjoy living there.
"You can see the greenery everywhere, that's why people don't want to go back," he added.
The video drew supportive comments from several users, many of whom expressed interest in moving to the United States.
Indian immigrants are the second-largest foreign-born population in the United States after Mexicans, with the India-born population growing 78 percent between 2010 and 2024, according to the Migration Policy Institute's latest report published in April 2026.
Indian nationals also received 71 percent of all H-1B visas issued in fiscal year 2024, while more than 363,000 Indian students were enrolled at US colleges and universities during the 2024-25 academic year, making them the largest international student group in the country.
