Machinists union endorses Moore-Miller reelection in Maryland
The labor union praised the administration's record on workplace protections and collective bargaining rights.

Maryland Gov. Wes Moore and Lt. Gov. Aruna Miller received the endorsement of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) as they seek re-election.
The IAM Maryland and D.C. State Council of Machinists announced its endorsement of the Moore-Miller ticket, citing the administration's record on strengthening the labor movement, expanding workplace protections, and supporting collective bargaining rights for union members across the state.

In a joint statement, Moore and Miller said protecting working families has remained their administration's top priority and pledged to continue working with the union if reelected.
"Protecting Maryland's working families has always been our number one priority, and with the help of IAM, we will win in November and keep delivering for the people who make Maryland work," Moore and Miller said.
"From raising the wages of over 160,000 Marylanders to expanding tax credits supporting over 34,000 children, we have been able to deliver real results for Maryland families, but that is just the beginning of what it looks like to create a Maryland that leaves no one behind,” the statement added.
Rick Compher, president of the IAM Maryland and D.C. State Council of Machinists, said the Moore-Miller administration has demonstrated its commitment to organized labor.
"Gov. Moore and Lt. Gov. Miller have shown they understand that a strong Maryland economy starts with workers who can bargain for fair wages and safe jobs," Compher said. He also cited Moore's public support for IAM members at Apple's unionized Towson store during a dispute over employee transfer rights, saying the administration stood with workers seeking equal treatment.
The IAM represents nearly 600,000 active and retired members across North America, including thousands of workers in Maryland and the District of Columbia employed in the aerospace, transportation, shipbuilding, manufacturing, defense, and federal sectors.
The endorsement adds one of North America's largest labor unions to the growing list of organizations backing the Moore-Miller campaign.
The Moore-Miller ticket has also received endorsements from 1199SEIU, the American Federation of Government Employees, the Maryland State Education Association, SEIU Local 500, the Maryland League of Conservation Voters, the Maryland International Association of Fire Fighters, and Maryland REALTORS®.
Miller, who was born in India, made history in 2022 as the first South Asian woman elected lieutenant governor in the United States and the first woman of color elected to statewide office in Maryland.
She and Moore launched their 2026 reelection campaign in May, highlighting their record on public safety, economic growth, education, and infrastructure.
Earlier this year, the campaign announced it had raised a record $7 million during Maryland's off-year fundraising cycle and reported $7.4 million in cash on hand. Maryland voters are scheduled to cast their ballots in the state's general election on Nov. 3.
