UW-Oshkosh establishes India Corner on campus
The India Corner aims to deepen understanding of India while inspiring cultural exchange, global perspectives, future study, research and collaboration among students.

The University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh dedicated an India Corner on campus earlier this year, creating a new campus resource aimed at expanding students' understanding of India and strengthening international and cultural engagement.
The India Corner will offer students an opportunity to explore one of the world's oldest civilizations and one of its most influential modern nations.
Representatives of the Consulate General of India in Chicago joined university leaders, faculty, students, community partners, business leaders, elected officials and other guests from across the region for the dedication ceremony.
“The India Corner represents more than a cultural resource. It is a space that promotes dialogue, learning and mutual understanding, reflecting the values that connect our two democracies and strengthen relationships between people, communities and nations,” Somnath Ghosh, former Consul General of India in Chicago said in a statement.

“It is an invitation to learn about one of the world’s oldest civilizations and one of its most influential modern nations. It is an invitation to explore India’s history, literature, philosophy, science, innovation, democracy and cultural traditions. It is an invitation to better understand a country that is helping shape the future of our interconnected world,” Brent Blahnik, UW-Oshkosh director of admissions said.
For students, the India Corner will provide opportunities to encounter new ideas and perspectives, challenge assumptions and develop interests that could lead to future study, research, travel and collaboration.
The university said that international engagement extends beyond travel and plays an important role in preparing students to live and lead in an increasingly interconnected world.
The dedication brings UW-Oshkosh into a growing network of educational institutions that have established India Corners and similar resources focused on India. Other institutions with such initiatives include Indiana University Bloomington, Rutgers University, Wesleyan University and the University at Buffalo, along with universities in other parts of the world.
The new India Corner is expected to serve as an ongoing resource for learning, exploration and engagement on the UW-Oshkosh campus, providing a space for students and the wider university community to deepen their understanding of India and its contributions across culture, history, knowledge and contemporary global affairs.
