India showcases AYUSH heritage at inaugural Viksit Bharat lecture in Shanghai
Discussions explored strengthening India-China trade ties, expanding market access, B2B engagement and cooperation across technology, manufacturing, healthcare, logistics and textiles.

The Consulate General of India in Shanghai on Aug. 13 hosted the inaugural Viksit Bharat lecture on “The India Way—Pharma Leadership,” highlighting India’s AYUSH heritage and its growing role in global health and wellness.
The event was organized in collaboration with the CGs Club of Shanghai and brought together senior diplomats, Friends of India, practitioners of yoga and Ayurveda, members of the Indian diaspora and representatives of modern and traditional medical systems.
Addressing the gathering, Consul General Pratik Mathur reflected on India’s traditional approach to well-being and mental health, while emphasizing the country’s growing focus on emerging technologies. He said the combination of traditional knowledge and innovation had contributed to strengthening the resilience and sustainability of India’s health-care sector.

Delivering the inaugural lecture, Dhanwantri Jha, founder of Sushruta Sanjeevani Hospital in Anand, Gujarat, highlighted the need to leverage technology to build international platforms and increase awareness about the potential of AYUSH, yoga and Ayurveda.
Jha discussed the relevance of traditional Indian wellness systems in addressing challenges associated with modern lifestyles, including stress-related disorders and diseases. He called for greater global engagement and wider dissemination of knowledge about these practices through technology-enabled platforms.
The discussion, which included an interactive exchange among practitioners of modern medicine and traditional medicinal systems, explored opportunities for greater awareness and collaboration.
According to the Consulate General of India, the full-house event also underscored the expanding footprint of India’s soft power in the region, particularly through its contributions in wellness, yoga, Ayurveda and traditional knowledge.
Earlier in the day, CG Mathur met Li Dong, president of the Shanghai CCPIT (China Council for Promotion of International Trade) , to discuss strengthening India-China economic and commercial ties and expanding business-to-business engagement between India and Shanghai. The discussions covered market access for Indian exports, B2B matchmaking, business delegations and cooperation across sectors including advanced manufacturing, AI and technology, green development, pharmaceuticals, automotive, textiles and logistics.
