Indian American edits book on Jainism’s contributions

The book was launched at Sumandeep Vidyapeeth in Vadodara this year.

Indian American author and researcher Dhruti Ghiya Rathi edited a new academic volume examining the intellectual and cultural contributions of Jainism across multiple disciplines.

Titled ‘Significant Contributions of Jainism – Volume 1’, the book includes 29 research articles by scholars from different countries. The essays examine the influence of Jain philosophy, ethics, and intellectual traditions in fields such as mathematics, science, philosophy, languages, art, environmental thought, history, cryptography, and finance.

The book was launched at Sumandeep Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University) in Vadodara, India, earlier this year.

The event was attended by philanthropists Abhay Firodia and Jasvant Modi, MansukhShah, founder president of Sumandeep Vidyapeeth, neurologist Sudhir Shah, Alessandra Consolaro of the University of Turin, Italy, Sulekh C. Jain, past president of JAINA, and Narendra Parson.

Published by Motilal Banarsidass, the 392-page book compiles interdisciplinary research on Jain thought and its historical and contemporary relevance. The volume is available internationally through Amazon in paperback and hardcover editions.

Rathi, who is based in New Jersey, holds a master's in business administration and works as an SAP professional. She is also a Fellow of Jain Academic Studies and serves as a Pathshala and guest lecturer on Jainism at Virginia Commonwealth University and at high schools.

She has spoken at a Comparative Religion Conference, religious baccalaureate programs, and Rotary Club events in Richmond, Virginia. Rathi is associated with the JainismSays blog and conducts research on Jain iconography, epigraphy, and historical and numismatic references in Jain literature, as well as on the application of Jain principles.

Her research has been presented at the Dating of Mahavir Nirvana Symposium organized by the International School for Jain Studies.
