Indian American U.S. Congress candidate Rakhi Israni has received an endorsement from Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District Trustee Subru Bhatt.

Bhatt, who was the Union City Human Relations Commissioner before being elected to his current office in 2018, described Israni, who is running to represent California’s 14th Congressional District, as the right choice to fill the recently vacated congressional seat.

The congressional district was left unrepresented after the resignation of former Congressman Eric Swalwell. Swalwell resigned after multiple allegations of sexual misconduct surfaced against him.

Bhatt described Israni as a “proven local voice” and said, “As a former Union City Human Relations Commissioner and currently a trustee of the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District, representing Union City on the board, Rakhi Israni is the right choice to replace Eric Swalwell in the U.S. Congress. Her election focus points are in sync with our needs.”

He continued, “Rakhi Israni has a proven track record of fighting for East Bay families and delivering actual results.”

Bhatt, an alumnus of San Jose State University, is a Union City resident and the president and CEO of Subru Bhat and Associates.

A quality assurance specialist, Bhatt is also the former director of QA at Johnson & Johnson (Scios), Fremont, California, and the former vice president of QA at XenoPort Inc.

Responding to the endorsement, Israni said on X, “Honored to be endorsed by Subru Bhat — trustee of the Alameda County Mosquito Abatement District, representing Union City, and former Union City Human Relations Commissioner.”

She added, “Subru has spent years serving the Union City community with thoughtful, results-oriented leadership. His support means a lot because the kind of ‘new but proven local voice’ he describes is exactly what I’m running to bring to Washington.”

Israni is contesting California’s 14th Congressional District, which covers parts of the eastern Bay Area and includes diverse suburban communities with a significant population of professionals, immigrants and families.

Israni is the founder of a national test-preparation company, which she said drew on her background as an educator and enabled her to mentor thousands of students.

Her legal work, her campaign highlights, has included representing underserved clients in family court and assisting elderly residents with estate planning.

She has also been active in local schools, serving as PTA president at the elementary, middle and high school levels attended by her children.

Bhatt’s tenure as trustee ends in December 2029.
