The program featured musical performances by Sargam Desi Rhythm, along with cultural presentations by local artists from the community. Organizers said the performances added to the evening’s focus on community engagement and charitable giving.

The event was organized by volunteers of the Michigan chapter, who worked on outreach and fundraising efforts in the lead-up to the program. Organizers highlighted the role of volunteers in bringing together supporters and increasing awareness about the importance of mid-day meal programs for school children in India.

Sponsors and attendees at the event spoke about the impact of the foundation’s work in providing meals and educational support to children. Many participants also acknowledged the organization’s efforts toward addressing hunger and improving access to education.

Michigan chapter chair Sampath Prahlad addressed the gathering and outlined the chapter’s activities, including previous fundraising initiatives and community outreach efforts. He also shared plans for upcoming events, including a summer golf fundraiser, and discussed expanding awareness and participation in the chapter’s activities.

Founded in 2000, The Akshaya Patra Foundation is one of the world’s largest NGO-run school meal programs and serves as an implementing partner for India’s PM POSHAN school meal initiative. The organization says it has cumulatively served more than 4 billion meals to children across India through its large-scale feeding programs.
