ICICI Bank and Visa launch first USD-denominated debit card for NRI customers / Handout
ICICI Bank has launched India’s first USD-denominated debit card for non-resident Indian (NRI) customers through its International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) banking unit at GIFT City, in partnership with Visa.
The new card is linked to ICICI Bank’s USD Global Savings Account and is designed to provide NRIs with direct access to their US dollar savings for global transactions. Built on Visa’s premium Infinite platform, the debit card can be used at ATMs, point-of-sale terminals, and e-commerce platforms worldwide.

The bank said the card is aimed at addressing common challenges faced by NRIs, including currency conversion costs and limited access to international banking products. By allowing customers to spend directly in US dollars, the card removes foreign exchange markup fees on USD transactions carried out at point-of-sale terminals and online platforms.
Vipul Agarwal, head of Cards and Payment Solutions at ICICI Bank, said the launch reflects the bank’s focus on developing products tailored to the changing financial needs of NRIs.
"This USD‑denominated debit card represents an important step in providing customers with seamless access to their USD savings. Our collaboration with Visa enables us to combine global acceptance with premium security and service standards, while further strengthening GIFT City’s position as a leading international financial hub.”
According to the bank, the card is the first of its kind to be issued from an IFSC Banking Unit in India and marks a step toward expanding offshore banking and payment solutions for global Indian customers. The launch also aligns with efforts to position GIFT City as an international financial hub for banking and cross-border services.
The bank said both new and existing holders of its USD Global Savings Account at GIFT City will be eligible for the card. In addition to zero markup on USD transactions, the card offers multi-currency usability for purchases across countries and can be used across domestic and international ATMs.
Rishi Chhabra, country manager for India at Visa, said the partnership supports the growing cross-border financial needs of NRIs by offering greater convenience, transparency, and control over their US dollar savings.
" As cross‑border financial needs continue to grow, this solution enables Non‑Resident Indians to access and spend their US Dollar savings globally with greater convenience, transparency, and control. By leveraging ICICI Bank’s wide reach and Visa’s global network, we are supporting India’s vision of building world‑class financial infrastructure and expanding globally connected payment experiences from GIFT City.”
The card includes several security features, including EMV chip-enabled technology and user-controlled settings through GIFT City NetBanking, allowing customers to enable or disable ATM withdrawals, point-of-sale use, e-commerce transactions, and contactless payments. Customers can also set daily transaction limits.
As part of the premium offering, cardholders will receive access to Visa Infinite privileges, which include travel, lifestyle, and exclusive offers from participating global brands.
ICICI Bank’s IFSC unit at GIFT City currently offers a range of banking products for NRIs, including global savings accounts in multiple currencies, fixed deposits, loans against deposits, and investment services.
