The U.S. House of Representatives on April 14 unanimously passed legislation to rename a post office in Sterling, Virginia, honoring a fallen local firefighter.

The  Firefighter Trevor Brown Post Office Building Act (H.R. 5058), introduced by Congressman Suhas Subramanyam, designates the United States Postal Service facility at 46164 Westlake Drive as the “Firefighter Trevor Brown Post Office Building.”

Brown, a volunteer firefighter with the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, died while responding to the emergency call. Lawmakers said the designation recognizes his service and sacrifice.

“I introduced this legislation to honor the life of Firefighter Trevor Brown, a volunteer fire-fighter at Sterling Fire and Rescue who lost his life in the line of duty while responding to an emergency gas leak call in 2024,” Subramanyam said in remarks on the House floor.

“Firefighter Brown was beloved in our community and left a lasting impact on all who knew him,” Subramanyam said. “He was a husband and father of three who coached youth soccer and baseball.”

The congressman underscored that  the designation aims to preserve Brown’s legacy and highlight his contributions to the community.

“It is my hope that renaming this Post Office to honor Firefighter Brown will keep his memory alive, inspire others, and remind us of his incredible courage, honor, and sacrifice.”

The legislation also specifies that any reference in federal records to the facility will reflect its new designation.

The bill now heads to the Senate for consideration.
