Indian Seniors Chicago hosts annual summer picnic

The annual gathering brought together community members and organizational leaders for fellowship, cultural activities, and recreation.

Indian Seniors of Chicago held its annual Summer Picnic on July 12, bringing together approximately 380 members for a day of community engagement, cultural activities and recreation.

The event at St. James Farm in Warrenville began with registration, followed by refreshments for attendees. Lunch featured a variety of traditional Indian dishes, including bhajiyas, chutneys, papdi, jalebi and other refreshments.

Following lunch, president Kantibhai Patel and vice president Navinbhai Patel addressed members and shared updates on the organization's activities. Members celebrating birthdays in July were recognized with a group rendition of "Happy Birthday."

The program also included a recitation of the Hanuman Chalisa and a presentation of the organization's June financial report by Treasurer Hemant Modi.

Recreational activities formed a significant part of the gathering, with members participating in Antakshari, ball games and bingo. The games were coordinated by Jayesh Shah and Daksha Parikh, with prizes presented to the winners. Afternoon refreshments, including tea, snacks, Amul kulfi and fresh watermelon, were served during the event.

The picnic concluded with a prayer and dinner. Organization founder Narsinghbhai Patel and past president Dilip Patel were among those in attendance.

Organizers said the annual picnic provides an opportunity for senior members to strengthen social connections, encourage active participation and celebrate community through cultural and recreational activities.
