Prominent US Congresswoman Jill Tokuda has introduced legislation to eliminate President Donald Trump’s “emergency” tariffs on key Indo-Pacific allies, including India saying the United States must strengthen—not penalize—partners facing growing pressure from the Chinese Communist Party.

Tokuda said the Chinese Communist Party “continues to escalate its aggressive and coercive behavior” across the region by “developing military bases on artificial islands in the South China Sea, embargoing imports from Pacific countries, and provoking tensions along the border with India, just to name a few examples.”
