New York State Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar accused “democratic socialists” of waging a campaign of hate against her on April 20.
In a social media post, Rajkumar, who is eyeing reelection, highlighted her identity as a civil rights attorney and a daughter of immigrants. She added that she overcame all odds to become the first South Asian woman ever elected to a New York state office.
Spotlighting her other achievements, she said, “We made Diwali a school holiday. We shut down illegal smoke shops with my Smoke Out Act. And we brought unprecedented energy to an overlooked part of our city.”

Rajkumar further noted that “the democratic socialists” are now trying to destroy everything that has been built through her office and the American Dream she stands for.
She said, “The democratic socialists are running a hate campaign against me. First, they targeted me for my religion, claiming that I'm a Hindu fascist, even though I'm born in New York.”
She also said, “Then they got even more dirty, questioning my qualifications as an attorney and saying I was sleeping with the mayor. And now they're manufacturing baseless allegations against my petitions.”
The socialists are waging a campaign of hate against me, rooted in sexism, religious bigotry, and outright lies. We must stand together to defeat the extremist, hate-filled machine poisoning our politics and dividing our communities.

Rajkumar also accused her political opponents of waging a campaign of hate against her, claiming that their campaign is “rooted in sexism, religious bigotry, and outright lies.”
She continued, “We must stand together to defeat the extremist, hate-filled machine poisoning our politics and dividing our communities.”
Rajkumar announced her intentions to not back down. Announcing that “love always wins over hate,” she urged people to come together to “defeat the extremist machines that are poisoning our politics.”
Announcing her future plans, she said, “We'll revitalize an overlooked quarter in the city and turn it into a beautiful socioeconomic engine with my Revitalized Atlantic 2.0 plan. We'll bring back dignity and agency to our true working-class families with my universal basic stock proposal. We'll create wealth for working families and restore the promise of the American dream.”
Urging people to come out in her support against the hate directed toward her, she said, “I don’t need your sympathy. I need your vote. Join us. Stand with us. Vote by June 23!”
