The Washington Aligarh Alumni Association (AAA-DC) marked Eid with a grand and heartwarming Eid Milan celebration, drawing a large and diverse crowd to a beautiful banquet hall in Sterling, Virginia, on April 11, 2026. The event brought together community members, distinguished alumni, and esteemed guests in a joyous gathering that reflected the true spirit of Eid—unity, generosity, and celebration of heritage.

The highlight of the evening was the presence of Dr. Ghazala Hashmi, lieutenant governor of Virginia, who attended as the chief guest. In an inspiring address, Dr. Hashmi spoke about her personal journey and the profound impact of education on her life. She paid tribute to her father, an alumnus and former student leader at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), recalling how his values and legacy shaped her own commitment to public service.

In a poignant moment, Dr. Hashmi joined attendees and volunteers, led by Masood Farshori, in singing the iconic AMU Tarana, “Yeh Mera Chaman Hai.” The collective rendition, a cherished tradition among the Aligarh community, evoked nostalgia and unity, resonating deeply with guests of all ages.

She also shared a special proclamation from her office, recognizing the significance of the occasion.
