Vance dismisses 'racist' criticism of Trump's sombrero memes

The memes, which circulated widely on social media, showed Schumer wearing a sombrero and a cartoon moustache. Vance said most Americans understood it was satire.

Vice President JD Vance dismissed Democratic criticism of memes posted by President Donald Trump that depicted congressional leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries wearing sombreros, saying the president was joking and "having a good time."

Asked if such images undermined negotiations to reopen the government, Vance replied: "Oh, I think it's funny. The president is joking, and we're having a good time. You can negotiate in good faith while also poking a little bit of fun at some of the absurdities of the Democrats' positions and even poking some fun at the absurdity of the Democrats themselves."
