Vice President JD Vance on Oct. 1 defended a move by Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to restore stricter grooming standards in the US military, including a ban on beards, saying it would help return the armed forces to the high standards they once maintained.
Vance, a Marine Corps veteran, said he supported Hegseth's efforts to roll back changes introduced during the Biden administration. "I thought Pete gave a hell of a speech, and a speech that really is just oriented around returning the American military to the very high standards that it has had for virtually its entire history until Joe Biden came along and decided to lower standards," he told reporters at the White House.
