Aghi took to LinkedIn to extend his wishes to Sandhu for his appointment, and wrote,
“Congratulations to my dear friend, Ambassador Taranjit Singh Sandhu on his appointment as Lt. Governor of New Delhi.”
Calling Sandhu a ‘dear friend of The Forum,’ Aghi added,
“Ambassador Sandhu is a veteran diplomat and one the finest diplomatic stalwarts and a key architect in cementing stronger U.S.-India relations through his four stints in the U.S, and above all, a dear friend of The Forum.”
“On behalf of everyone at USISPF, I wish Ambassador Sandhu all the best in his new role back in the nation's capital and strengthening the nation's capital in his new avatar.”
Sandhu’s oath of office and secrecy was administered by Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya, Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court, and the ceremony was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, senior officials, and other dignitaries.
Sandhu, a 1988-batch officer of the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), has decades of diplomatic experience, particularly in India’s engagement with the United States. He served as India’s Ambassador to the United States from February 2020 to January 2024.
Previously, he has served multiple stints at the Embassy of India, Washington, D.C., making him one of the most experienced Indian diplomats dealing with U.S. affairs.
