Ambassador Gor congratulates “good friend” Sandhu on Delhi Lt. Gov role
Sandhu is a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and was the Indian Ambassador to the United States from Feb. 2020 to Jan. 2024.

U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on March 11 congratulated Taranjit Singh Sandhu on being sworn in as the 23rd Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
Describing Sandhu as a “good friend," Gor wrote on X, “Congratulations to my good friend @SandhuTaranjitS being sworn in as Lt. Governor of Delhi. You’ve done so much to promote U.S.-India ties in my nation’s capital and you’ll do a great job serving the people of your nation’s capital,” Gor said.

Gor also personally attended the March 11 swearing-in ceremony at Lok Niwas, which was attended by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and other dignitaries.
Sandhu, a 1988-batch Indian Foreign Service officer aged 63, took the oath of office and secrecy administered by Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya. He succeeds Vinai Kumar Saxena, who has been appointed Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
A veteran diplomat, Sandhu’s diplomatic career featured multiple postings at the Indian Embassy in Washington and service at India’s UN Mission in New York (2005 to 2009). His U.S. tenure focused on deepening defense, technology, and trade cooperation.
