Junaid Ahmed, the Democratic candidate contesting for Illinois’ 8th Congressional District, has received an endorsement from the firebrand congresswoman from New York, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Ahmed described the endorsement as “huge news” and noted that her backing makes him “even more impassioned to FIGHT in this race and be a VOICE for every working person in the 8th district.”

Ahmed, who is contesting to stake his claim to the Democratic void left by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi’s decision to fight for a Senate seat and not retain his long-held congressional bastion, was endorsed by another big Democratic name, Bernie Sanders, just last month.
Making the announcement, he said, “I am beyond ecstatic to announce that @AOC has endorsed my campaign for Congress.”
He continued, “This is HUGE news & I couldn’t be more thankful to her for her support.”
Ahmed has been previously endorsed by national progressive groups and Democratic lawmakers, including members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus PAC and Sunrise Movement Chicago.
He will be going up against the likes of U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean, Hanover Park trustee Yasmeen Bankole, business owner Neil Khot and other local leaders in the upcoming Democratic primary scheduled for March this year.
