Trump used trade ‘in a very powerful way’ to ease India–Pakistan tensions: White House

The White House on Aug. 19 said President Donald Trump employed trade as a “very powerful” tool to defuse tensions between India and Pakistan, crediting his economic leverage with helping prevent a potential nuclear confrontation between the two South Asian rivals.

At a news conference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt placed the India–Pakistan example alongside a string of what she described as diplomatic successes under Trump, including hostage releases in Gaza and progress in Ukraine peace talks.
