Top SF Democrat endorses Saikat Chakrabarti
The endorsement comes as Chakrabarti campaigns to represent San Francisco in Congress.

San Francisco congressional candidate Saikat Chakrabarti received the endorsement of Honey Mahogany, Chair Emerita of the San Francisco Democratic Party and co-founder of The Transgender District.
Chakrabarti announced the endorsement in a social media post, describing Mahogany as “an activist, social worker, drag performer, and San Francisco native” who has long been involved in the city’s queer nightlife and culture.

“I am honored to earn the endorsement of @honeymahogany,” Chakrabarti said in the post.
He added that he looked forward to working with Mahogany “to ensure that San Francisco remains a sanctuary where the Trans community can be celebrated and thrive at a time when it is facing unprecedented attacks and discrimination at both the federal level and from state legislatures across the country.”
Mahogany has been a prominent figure in San Francisco civic and LGBTQ+ advocacy circles and previously served as chair of the San Francisco Democratic Party. The endorsement adds to Chakrabarti’s efforts to strengthen support among progressive and LGBTQ+ voters in the race for California’s 11th Congressional District.
Chakrabarti, a former chief of staff to Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and a co-founder of Justice Democrats, launched his campaign after former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced her retirement from Congress.
The crowded Democratic race also includes California State Sen. Scott Wiener and San Francisco Supervisor Connie Chan. Recent polling by the San Francisco Chronicle showed Wiener leading the field, while Chakrabarti and Chan were statistically tied for second place.
Campaign finance filings show Chakrabarti has raised more than $5 million for the race, including nearly $4.8 million of his own money, making him one of the top-funded candidates in the contest.
Justice Democrats endorsed Chakrabarti’s candidacy earlier this year, backing his progressive platform in the race to succeed Pelosi.
California’s primary election is scheduled for June 2, with the top two finishers advancing to the general election in November.
