The Indian Overseas Congress USA (IOCUSA) welcomed the Congress high command’s decision to appoint V. D. Satheesan as the next Chief Minister of Kerala following the United Democratic Front’s electoral victory.

In a statement issued on behalf of IOCUSA, George Abraham said Satheesan had emerged as the natural and most widely accepted choice for the leadership role.

“Satheesan has long been viewed as the natural choice for the position, and this decision truly reflects the sentiment expressed not only by the people across Kerala, but also by the vast Malayali diaspora around the world,” Abraham said.

He said Satheesan’s leadership during the election campaign, commitment to democratic values, and ability to connect with ordinary people had earned him broad public respect and credibility.

Abraham also described Satheesan as a determined and courageous leader who has consistently demonstrated political integrity, resilience, and commitment to public service and secular democratic values.

“Satheesan is a fighter with a deep sense of responsibility toward the people of Kerala. He has always stood firmly for secularism, inclusiveness, and the protection of democratic institutions, values that are deeply cherished by the people of Kerala,” Abraham said.

“We are confident that he will do his utmost to serve the state with dedication, transparency, compassion, and a strong commitment to social harmony and justice,” he added.

The IOCUSA also expressed confidence that the incoming chief minister would work toward strengthening unity within the Congress party and the broader United Democratic Front while focusing on governance and development.

Referring to Kerala’s economic challenges, Abraham said the state faces concerns related to its financial situation, unemployment, economic growth, and public welfare.

“We believe Satheesan possesses both the vision and the administrative capability to address these issues effectively and restore public confidence,” he said.

Satheesan, a six-time MLA from Paravur and former Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, was announced as the Congress party’s chief ministerial choice after days of internal consultations within the party leadership.

The Congress-led UDF returned to power in Kerala after a decade, securing a decisive mandate against the Left Democratic Front government led by Pinarayi Vijayan.
