Punjab-set Hindi drama explores legacy
‘Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz’ centers a close-knit household shaped by faith and tradition.

Hindi-language original series, ‘Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz’ was announced by ZEE5 Global on Jan. 13, 2026, the platform said.
The six-episode family drama stars Suvinder Vicky and Mihir Ahuja as a father and son living in Punjab. Mahi Raj and Taranjit Kaur appear as the son’s sister and mother. The series is produced by Rusk Media and directed by Ameet Guptha.

Set in a close-knit household shaped by faith and tradition, the story follows Ghuppi, a stammering teenager who dreams of playing football. His ambitions conflict with his father’s expectations. The father is a respected Ragi singer who wants his son to continue the family’s musical legacy.
The narrative centers on the tension between inherited duty and personal choice. It also explores identity, fear and courage as Ghuppi struggles with his speech and the pressure to conform. The series traces his effort to find his own voice in an environment defined by sacred music and long-held beliefs.
Kaveri Das, chief channel officer for &TV and business head for Hindi ZEE5, said the series reflects the platform’s focus on rooted family stories. She said it examines “the emotional tensions that arise” when traditional values meet a younger generation’s desire to choose its own path, adding that the setting in Punjab grounds the story culturally and emotionally.
Producer Mayank Yadav of Rusk Media said the team wanted ‘Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz’ to feel “lived-in and honest,” describing the conflict between musical legacy and a young boy’s interest in sport as a familiar family dynamic.
‘Shabad – Reet Aur Riwaaz’ will premiere soon on ZEE5 Global.
