Arsalan Chaudhary / Peel Regional Police
Peel Regional Police arrested 43-year-old Arsalan Chaudhary, on Jan. 12, in connection with an investigation into the theft of more than $20 million in gold bars, the largest gold heist in Canadian history.
On Apr. 17, 2023, a flight from Zurich, Switzerland, landed at Toronto Pearson International Airport carrying approximately 400 kilograms of .9999-pure gold worth over $20 million, in addition to the Gold, it carried $2.5 million in foreign currency. After being offloaded, the shipment was moved to a separate secure area on airport property. The following day, authorities reported the entire consignment missing to Peel Regional Police.
The investigation of this heist was labeled Project 24K and it led to the arrest of Chaudhary as a key suspect.

Chaudhary is charged with Theft Over $5000, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence.
Peel Regional Police have identified and charged nine individuals in connection with the theft, laying more than 21 charges. In latest turn of events, investigators arrested and charged Chaudhary at Toronto Pearson International Airport as he flew in from Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Two of Chaudhary's suspected aides, 33-year-old Simran Preet Panesar and 36-year-old Prasath Paramalingam are also wanted by the police. Panesar, a former Air Canada employee from Brampton, wanted on theft and conspiracy charges, is believed to be in India with an extradition request pending.
