The Los Angeles Knight Riders secured a top-two finish in the Major League Cricket league stage with a six-wicket victory over the Texas Super Kings on July 13, booking their place in the playoffs.

Chasing 172, the Knight Riders reached the target in 19.1 overs after restricting Texas Super Kings to 171 for 9. Colin Munro starred with 62 off 36 balls, while Matthew Tromp remained unbeaten on 58 off 28 deliveries. Jason Holder also impressed with the ball, claiming 3 for 33, as LAKR completed a clinical all-round performance.

After opting to bowl, the Knight Riders struck early when Sunil Narine dismissed Saiteja Mukkamalla in the opening over. Faf du Plessis (23) and Rilee Rossouw (24) steadied the innings before Jason Holder and Andre Russell removed both batters to leave Texas struggling. Dian Forrester provided late impetus with a quick 24 off 11 balls, but regular wickets prevented the Super Kings from building lasting partnerships.

Shubham Ranjane anchored the innings with an unbeaten 51 off 34 balls, hitting five fours and a six, but received little support from the lower order. Russell finished with figures of 2 for 38, while Narine conceded just 15 runs in his four-over spell.

The chase was dominated by Munro, who struck six fours and four sixes during his 62-run knock. Andre Fletcher contributed 26 before Matthew Tromp took control, smashing seven fours and two sixes in his unbeaten half-century to steer the Knight Riders to victory with five balls remaining. Holder sealed the win with a six after Rovman Powell departed for eight.

Hardus Viljoen was the pick of the Texas bowlers with 2 for 42, while Akeal Hosein claimed one wicket.

The victory ensured the Knight Riders finished in the top two and advanced to Qualifier 1, while Texas Super Kings concluded their campaign after failing to qualify for the playoffs despite Ranjane's fighting half-century.
