Jude Bellingham did what Harry Kane or Erling Haaland were expected to do. Jude Bellingham scored twice to help England get past Norway in the third quarterfinal of the FIFA World Cup 2026 on Saturday.

His feat not only helped England stage a comeback and overcome a 0-1 deficit to win 2-1 in extra time to assure the 1966 World Cup champion its first last-four berth in the World Cup in eight years. It was close and sweet as England made it against Erling Haaland's Norway.

Two Jude Bellingham goals not only took his personal tally to six but were enough to bring England to its first semifinal match since 2018, when it was defeated by Croatia in extra time. Incidentally, this year marks the 60th anniversary of England's last World Cup trophy in 1966.

England may have traditionally been one of the best soccer teams in the world, but it does not have many appearances in the semifinals to justify its ratings.

Looking at its World Cup history, England has reached the semifinal round three times. And in those last-four encounters, its record is not that impressive: one win and two losses.

In 2018, it lost to Croatia in extra time, 2-1, and in 1990, it lost to Germany on penalties after a 1-1 draw. The only win in the semifinals it had was in 1966, when it beat Portugal 2-1.

Finally, it was left to Jude Bellingham to break this quarterfinal barrier. He struck twice as England came from behind to beat Norway in extra time and book its place in the FIFA World Cup 2026 semifinals.

The Real Madrid midfielder not only neutralized the lead Andreas Schjelderup's opener late in the first half had given Norway before completing his brace in extra time to send Thomas Tuchel's side through.

After a tentative start at Miami Stadium, Norway seized the initiative. Erling Haaland's header straight at Jordan Pickford was a warning England did not heed, as Schjelderup swept a cross-shot in off the inside of the far post to give the Nordics a 36th-minute lead.

The Three Lions weathered a wave of pressure before leveling in first-half stoppage time through Bellingham's driving run and cool finish.

Harry Kane had the ball in the net moments later, but the goal was ruled out for offside. Torbjorn Heggem thought he had restored Norway's lead just before the hour mark, only for VAR to intervene and chalk off the effort for Haaland's push on Elliot Anderson following a corner.

England survived yet another scare when Kristoffer Ajer headed against the crossbar, while Djed Spence almost capitalized on Nyland's hurried clearance as a tense contest went to extra time.

Bellingham had different plans for his team. He scored the decisive winner, reacting quickest from close range after Nyland spilled substitute Morgan Rogers' fierce strike to bring Norway's memorable World Cup run to an end.
