Dr. Manu Vora and the Baldrige foundation award / BFI
Washington based nonprofit, Foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award honored Blind Foundation for India, USA, President Dr. Manu K. Vora, with the 2026 Baldrige Foundation Award for Leadership Excellence in Nonprofit.
Dr. Vora, an Indian-American community leader living in Naperville, Illinois, is the Founder, Director, and President of the Blind Foundation for India (BFI), USA since 1989. He is also the chairman and president of Business Excellence, Inc., a global quality management consulting firm.
In a statement, BFI described the Baldrige Excellence Framework as its “North Star” since 1989. It noted, “By embedding concepts such as visionary leadership, effective governance, data-driven decision-making, volunteer engagement, and donor centricity into its operational fabric, BFI has successfully navigated over 37 years of dedicated service, impacting the lives of over 15 million visually challenged people across India.”

It continued, “The systematic deployment of Baldrige-aligned tools has enabled the foundation to achieve peak operational excellence while ensuring the sustainable growth of its mission to prevent blindness and empower the visually impaired in India.”
Vora holds a Ph.D. and a Masters’ in Chemical Engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. He also holds a Bachelors’ degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (BHU), Varanasi, India.
He was recognized for his leadership in the promotion of performance excellence across the United States.
Since 1989, Vora’s BFI has raised over $8 million to support 300,000 free Cataract operations, over 1.5 million free eyesight checkups for children and free eyesight checkups for 1.5 million adults.
The BFI has also provided for 151 mobile vans for transport of doctors and patients, and donated 10,000 Braille Kits for blind children’s education.
The Foundation Awards for Leadership Excellence honors leaders across business, nonprofit, government, health Care, education, cybersecurity, and community sectors who have shown exceptional commitment to the Baldrige mission.
