Anil Menon set for second ISS spacewalk Aug. 18
The upcoming spacewalk follows the most recent excursion on Aug. 6, when Menon and Meir spent six hours and 27 minutes working on the station's power system.

NASA astronaut Anil Menon is scheduled to conduct a spacewalk outside the International Space Station on Aug. 18 to replace a space-to-ground antenna to maintain high-speed data and communications transmissions between the space station and mission controllers on Earth.
He will conduct the spacewalk along with European Space Agency astronaut Sophie Adenot.

The spacewalk will see the duo spend about six and a half hours swapping an antenna on the orbital outpost's Z1 truss segment.
Menon and Adenot prepared for the spacewalk by organizing the tools they will take outside the station. Station commander Jessica Meir and NASA flight engineer Jack Hathaway reviewed maneuvers involving the station's Canadarm2 robotic arm, which will assist the spacewalkers.

The upcoming spacewalk follows the most recent excursion on Aug. 6, when Meir and Menon spent six hours and 27 minutes working on the station's power system. It was Menon's first spacewalk.
They built a modification kit on the Starboard 6 truss segment in preparation for the installation of a roll-out solar array later this year.
The crew also conducted scientific research and routine activities ahead of the next spacewalk. Meir worked on an investigation into manufacturing semiconductor crystals and processing metal alloys in microgravity, while Menon inspected the Kibo laboratory module's solid combustion experiment module for leaks.
Menon was born and raised in Minneapolis to Ukrainian and Indian immigrant parents.
Menon was selected by NASA to join the 2021 Astronaut Candidate Class. He reported for duty in January 2022. Menon was SpaceX's first flight surgeon, helping to launch its first humans into space during the Demo-2 mission and building a medical organization to support human spaceflight during future missions. Prior to that, he served NASA as the crew flight surgeon for various expeditions aboard the International Space Station.
Menon is an actively practicing emergency medicine physician with fellowship training in wilderness medicine. As a physician, he was a first responder during the 2010 earthquake in Haiti, the 2015 earthquake in Nepal and the 2011 Reno Air Races crash.
