US tariffs of Indian exports an unwarranted, says Janvi Desai, an economic analyst who believes the measures have "come very heavy and back-to-back" in rising from 25 to 50 percent. "I don't think it is warranted," she adds. US President Donald Trump ordered the levies over India's continued purchases of Russian oil. "This has been a pure economic decision for India," Desai says, "importing crude from Russia. It has nothing to do with favouring any nation". Despite the uncertainty triggered by the tariffs, Desai believes India’s large population and domestic manufacturing potential should inspire confidence in the country’s long-term growth.
