Why Reena Gupta wants to rebuild civic engagement

The Pleasanton City Council candidate said she wants to make civic engagement more accessible by encouraging residents to participate in local decision-making.

For years, entrepreneur Reena Gupta believed meaningful change could be made without being elected to office.

Whether helping a temple digitize its operations, mentoring women returning to the workforce after career breaks, serving on city commissions or advising students on emerging careers, she saw community work as an extension of her entrepreneurial spirit.

But after years of serving from the outside, she reached a realization.

"It's about making sure every resident has a place at the table," Gupta, who is running for the District 3 seat on the Pleasanton City Council in California, told New India Abroad.
