Indian American entrepreneur and community leader Reena Gupta announced her candidacy for the District 3 seat on the Pleasanton City Council in the November 2026 municipal election.

Gupta announced her campaign in a LinkedIn post on July 4, describing her decision to run as a way of giving back to the country and community that she said helped her family achieve the "American Dream."

"America gave my family the opportunity to build our American Dream. The only way I know to say 'thank you' is by serving the community that made that dream possible," Gupta wrote.

A Pleasanton resident since 2011, Gupta said she has spent more than a decade serving the city through its schools, nonprofit organizations, volunteer initiatives and community programs.

She said her campaign is focused on increasing civic engagement by making local government more accessible and encouraging residents to participate in decisions affecting the city.

"As I began this journey, I started asking residents one simple question: Do you know what decisions are being made at City Hall, and how they affect your daily life here in Pleasanton?" Gupta wrote, adding that many residents care deeply about the community but often lack the time to follow City Council meetings or stay informed about local issues.

She said she plans to publish simplified summaries of City Council agendas and decisions and create opportunities for residents to submit feedback through her campaign website.

"I'll listen, summarize what I'm hearing from the community, and carry those voices into City Hall," she wrote.

Gupta's platform focuses on generating new city revenue, protecting clean water, supporting thoughtful housing policies, improving public safety, maintaining roads, parks and libraries, and preparing the workforce for future economic opportunities. Her campaign slogan is, "Here to Listen, Here to Serve."

Her public service includes serving as a former commissioner on the City of Pleasanton's Economic Vitality Commission, where she contributed to the city's Economic Development Strategic Plan.

She also serves as a member of the Pleasanton Unified School District Career Technical Education Advisory Board, a Pleasanton Connects ambassador, an advisory board member of the Three Valleys Community Foundation, a graduate of Leadership Pleasanton, and a member of the Rotary Club of Pleasanton.

Gupta has also led community initiatives, including the FutureScape program, which connects students with industry professionals, and efforts to bring Diwali celebrations to Pleasanton's Museum on Main and downtown business district.

Pleasanton will hold municipal elections on Nov. 3, 2026, to elect council members from Districts 1 and 3, along with the city's mayor. The city has used district-based elections for City Council seats since 2022, while the mayor continues to be elected citywide.

The District 3 seat is currently held by Councilmember Julie Testa, whose four-year term expires in November 2026. Candidate nominations are scheduled to open July 13 and close Aug. 7, according to the City of Pleasanton.
